Graduations and moving-up ceremonies mean it’s time for students to kick back and start enjoying the summer—and that urgent care centers need to start offering fall sports physicals already. Some states say student-athletes can have physicals for the following school year’s fall sports season in the previous spring. Michigan, for one, permits physicals for fall sports to take place as early as April 15 of the preceding school year. With families often being gone for portions of the summer, a mad rush to get sports physicals done in late July and August might be expected. Getting physicals done on the early side also allows more time to address any issues that could preclude a child from participating in a fall sport. Here’s another thought: Suggest pairing a well-child visit with a sports physical, including any needed immunizations, to families who need them. It makes their trip to urgent care even more convenient if they can kill two (or three) birds with one stone. It also paints you as a forward-thinking health provider who wants to make their lives easier. MidMichigan Urgent Care goes one step further to encourage families to bring their children in by offering sports physicals at a discounted rate. Consider incorporating these approaches into your outreach and marketing initiatives.
