Efforts to stem runaway abuse of opioids—and the resultant increases in addiction and deaths—are firing on all cylinders from the White House to the state house. On a more local level, failing to get on board with current regulations can land you in hot water with the DEA. The Urgent Care Association has asked Ronald Chapman, II, an attorney well versed on the subject, to provide a brief primer on DEA compliance with topics that include elements of a valid prescription, limits on refills, postdating prescriptions, storage of controlled substances, and common compliance issues related to prescribing and dispensing in its next webinar. Protect Yourself and Your License: DEA Compliance and Opioid Abuse will take place on Thursday, October 5, from 1-2 pm, Central. He will also use real-world examples in discussing criminal, administrative, and civil cases with many issues specific to urgent care. Cost to attend the webinar is $50 for UCA members and $100 for nonmembers. For more details or to register, visit http://ucaoa.site-ym.com/events/EventDetails.aspx?id=1005999.
